Kuwaiti businessmen to invest in BD

Kuwaiti businessmen have expressed their interest to invest in Bangladesh after learning about various facilities over the foreign direct investment (FDI) here as provided by the government.Their expression of investment interest was evident during a meeting in Kuwait on Monday with the visiting delegation of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), a statement said.

After discussion with the CCCI delegation led by its President Mahbubul Alam, the foreign businessmen expressed their interest to invest after knowing about various potential sectors and also the facilities provided by the govenrment.The CCCI President informed the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) leaders about various FDI facilities including tax holiday, duty free export-import, return of profit and dividend, given by the Bangladesh government.CCCI Senior Vice-President Md Nurun Newaj Selim, Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Kuwait SM Abul Kalam and KCCI Deputy Director General Ahmed J Al Omar attended the meeting, among others.Mahbubul Alam urged his Kuwaiti counterparts to invest in Bangladesh's potential sectros like readymade garments (RMG), ship building, refinery, tannery, ceramic and pharmaceuticals.In response, Ahmed J Al Omar said they didn't know about investment facilities for them in Bangladesh before the meeting.He also asked the KCCI delgation to visit Bangladesh in near future.The visiting businessmen were scheduled to join a view-exchange meeting with the Kuwait Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday morning.
