Bangladesh Embassy observes National Mourning Day

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait observed the National Mourning Day and the 41st Death Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due solemnity at the Chancery on Aug 15, 2016. To commemorate the day, the Mission drew up elaborate programs. The program began with the hoisting of National Flag at half mast at the Chancery Building and Bangladesh House in the morning by His Excellency the Ambassador S.M. Abul Kalam. Embassy officials, officials from the Bangladesh Military Contingent (BMC) in Kuwait, Bangladesh Biman, and members of Bangladesh community in Kuwait including freedom fighters of Bangladesh, doctors, engineers, professors, businessmen, leaders of socio-economic-cultural arenas, and the media representatives were present during the flag hosting and in the subsequent events.

To commemorate, August 15 is the National Mourning Day of Bangladesh. On this fateful night in 1975, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bangalee of all times, embraced martyrdom. It was the 41st martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu this year. The Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister and the entire nation paid their profound homage with heavy hearts to the architect of sovereign Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as to the memory of his family members who also embraced martyrdom on that day in 1975. They prayed Almighty Allah for the salvation of those departed souls on this Mourning Day.

 

Further to recall with deep regards, on the fateful night of Aug 15, 1975, eighteen members of the family along with Bangabandhu’s wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, three sons Captain Sheikh Kamal, Lt Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russel, two daughters-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosy Jamal, brother Sheikh Naser, peasant leader Abdur Rab Serniabat, youth leader Sheikh Fazlul Haq Moni & his wife Arzu Moni, Baby Serniabat, Sukanta Babu, Arif and Abdul Nayeem Khan Rintu were killed on the fateful night in 1975. Bangabandhu’s Military Secretary Col. Jamil was also killed. Some members of a family at Mohammadpur in the capital were also killed by artillery shells fired by the killers on the same day.

Other different other events of the program were organized by the Bangladesh Embassy, Kuwait on Aug 15, 2016 at its Chancery with S.M. Mahbubul Alam, Counsellor (Political) & Head of Chancery (HOC) of the Embassy as the Anchor. The programs at the Multi purpose Hall of the Chancery were started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Special Dua and Munajat were also offered for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation and all other martyrs of the day and during the liberation war. Divine blessing of Almighty Allah was also begged for a continued peace and progress of Bangladesh. One minute silence was observed to pay deep homage in memory of the Father of the Nation and other martyrs of Aug 15, 1975. The senior officials of the Embassy read out the messages of Hon’ble President Md Abdul Hamid, Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Hon’ble Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali, MP, and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shariar Alam, MP of Bangladesh on the occasion. A documentary film on the Father of the Nation was shown at the program, which depicted various golden moments of life, struggle, and milestone achievements of the Father of the Nation.

A discussion meeting was also organized to discuss various aspects of the life and achievements of the Father of the Nation with participation of many Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait. The discussants paid deep homage to the memory of the Father of the Nation. They highlighted the life and achievements of the Father of the Nation. They said that with response to the clarion call of the Father of the Nation, the countrymen from all strata participated in the Liberation War in 1971 and achieved the ultimate victory on Dec 16, 1971 through a nine-month long armed struggle. For his extraordinary leadership and contributions towards achieving Independence, Bangabandhu and Bangladesh emerged as a unique symbol to the people of Bangladesh, they added.

In his speech, His Excellency paid his profound homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as to the memory of his family members who also embraced martyrdom on that day. He prayed to Almighty Allah for the salvation of those departed souls. His Excellency said that the people of Bangladesh snatched the glowing sun of the independence, breaking the shackles of subjugation of thousands of years, under the dynamic, courageous and charismatic leadership of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. We, the Bangalees, have achieved our longcherished independence, own nationstate, national flag and national anthem, national constitution under leadership of Bangabandhu, he added. The ambassador elaborated that the contribution of Bangabandhu in our national history is of paramount and ceaseless. Starting from the historic Language Movement in 1952, Bangabandhu led the nation at every struggle and movement including movement against Martial Law in 1958, Six-Point Movement in 1966 and Mass Upsurge in 1969 towards attaining the right to self-determination and fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the masses. The ambassador of Bangladesh in Kuwait also said that the Father of the Nation was a fearless, courageous, and humane leader. He further added Bangabandhu was the leader of the oppressed and deprived masses of the world and an instrument of realizing their rights and emancipation. The enchanting and charismatic leadership and personality of the Father of the Nation had united the entire nation in one string during the ups and downs of our national life.
