আজ ঐতিহাসিক ১০ জানুয়ারি, জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের স্বদেশ প্রত্যাবর্তন দিবস। দীর্ঘ ৯ মাস ১৪ দিন পাকিস্তানের মিয়ানওয়ালী কারাগারে বন্দিজীবন শেষে ১৯৭২ সালের এই দিনে জাতির পিতা স্বাধীন-সার্বভৌম বাংলাদেশে প্রত্যাবর্তন করেন। সশস্ত্র মুক্তিযুদ্ধের মাধ্যমে ১৯৭১ সালের ১৬ ডিসেম্বর চূড়ান্ত বিজয় অর্জিত হলেও প্রকৃতপক্ষে জাতির পিতার স্বদেশ প্রত্যাবর্তনের মধ্য দিয়েই বিজয়ের পূর্ণতা লাভ করে। অবিস্মরণীয় এ দিনে আমি জাতির পিতার স্মৃতির প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করছি এবং তাঁর বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করছি। এ বছর বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বদেশ প্রত্যাবর্তন দিবসটি আরো বেশি তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ। দেশের জনগণ জাতির পিতার স্বপ্ন বাস্তবায়নের জন্য একাদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যা জননেত্রী শেখ হাসিনাকে টানা তৃতীয়বারের জন্য সরকার পরিচালনার দায়িত্ব অর্পণ করেছেন। নির্বাচনের এ রায় বঙ্গবন্ধু ও তাঁর সুযোগ্য কন্যা মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর প্রতি তাদের গভীর আস্থা ও অকৃত্রিম ভালোবাসারই প্রতিফলন।

আমাদের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে জাতির পিতার অবদান ছিল অতুলনীয়। ১৯৪৮ সালে মাতৃভাষার দাবিতে গঠিত সর্বদলীয় রাষ্ট্রভাষা সংগ্রাম পরিষদের নেতৃত্বসহ ১৯৫২ সালে ভাষা আন্দোলন, ১৯৫৪ সালে যুক্তফ্রন্ট নির্বাচন, ১৯৫৮ সালে জেনারেল আইয়ুব খানের সামরিক শাসনবিরোধী আন্দোলন, ১৯৬২ সালে শিক্ষা কমিশন, ১৯৬৬ সালে ৬-দফা আন্দোলন, ১৯৬৯ সালে গণঅভ্যুত্থান, ১৯৭০ সালে সাধারণ নির্বাচনে আওয়ামী লীগের নিরঙ্কুশ বিজয় সবই হয়েছিল তাঁর নেতৃত্বে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে তিনি ছিলেন বাঙালির স্বপ্নদ্রষ্টা, স্বাধীন বাংলার রূপকার। ১৯৭০ সালের ঐতিহাসিক নির্বাচনে আওয়ামী লীগ নিরঙ্কুশ সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠতা অর্জন করলেও পাকিস্তানী শাসকগোষ্ঠীর ক্ষমতা হস্তান্তরে অনীহার কারণে বঙ্গবন্ধুর নেতৃত্বে বাংলার মুক্তিকামী মানুষ অসহযোগ আন্দোলন শুরু করে। ১৯৭১ সালের ০৭ মার্চ তৎকালীন রেসকোর্স ময়দানে ঐতিহাসিক ভাষণে প্রকারান্তরে তিনি স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা দেন। বজ্রকণ্ঠে তাঁর উচ্চারণ, “এবারের সংগ্রাম আমাদের মুক্তির সংগ্রাম, এবারের সংগ্রাম স্বাধীনতার সংগ্রাম”। ২৫ মার্চ কালরাত্রে পাকিস্তান হানাদার বাহিনী বাঙালি নিধনযজ্ঞের নীলনকশা ‘অপারেশন সার্চলাইট’ এর মাধ্যমে গণহত্যা শুরু করে। এ প্রেক্ষাপটে ২৬ মার্চের প্রথম প্রহরে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা ঘোষণা দেন এবং সর্বস্তরের জনগণকে মুক্তিযুদ্ধে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ার ডাক দেন। চূড়ান্ত বিজয় অর্জিত না হওয়া পর্যন্ত তিনি লড়াই চালিয়ে যাওয়ার আহ্বান জানান। এর পরই পাকিস্তানী জান্তারা বঙ্গবন্ধুকে তাঁর ধানমন্ডি ৩২ নম্বর রোডের বাসা থেকে গ্রেফতার করে এবং তদানিন্তন পশ্চিম পাকিস্তানের মিয়ানওয়ালি কারাগারে বন্দি করে রাখে। বঙ্গবন্ধুর অনুপস্থিতিতে তাঁর নেতৃত্বেই মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চলতে থাকে। ১৯৭১ সালের ১৬ ডিসেম্বর বাঙালি জাতি চূড়ান্ত বিজয় অর্জন করে।

১৯৭২ সালের ১০ জানুয়ারি  সদ্য-স্বাধীন দেশের মাটিতে পা রেখেই বঙ্গবন্ধু আবেগাপ্লুত হয়ে পড়েন। সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানে সমবেত লাখো জনতার উদ্দেশ্যে বঙ্গবন্ধু বলেন, “আমার জীবনের সাধ আজ পূর্ণ হয়েছে। আমার সোনার বাংলা আজ স্বাধীন ও সার্বভৌম রাষ্ট্র”। বাংলা, বাঙালি ও বাংলাদেশের প্রতি বঙ্গবন্ধুর ছিল নিখাদ ও গভীর ভালোবাসা। পাকিস্তানে বন্দিকালীন তাঁর ফাঁসির হুকুম হয়েছিল। বঙ্গবন্ধু বলেছিলেন, “ফাঁসির মঞ্চে যাওয়ার সময় আমি বলবো, আমি বাঙালি, বাংলা আমার দেশ, বাংলা আমার ভাষা। জয় বাংলা’’। দেশ ও জনগণের প্রতি এমন অকৃত্রিম ভালোবাসার উদাহরণ বিশ্বে বিরল।

১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ আগস্ট বঙ্গবন্ধুকে সপরিবারে হত্যার মাধ্যমে স্বাধীনতাবিরোধী শক্তি তাঁর আদর্শ মুছে দিতে এবং দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্ব খর্ব করতে অপচেষ্টা চালিয়েছিল। কিন্তু বাঙালি বীরের জাতি। যতদিন বাংলাদেশ ও বাঙালি থাকবে ততদিন বঙ্গবন্ধু সবার অনুপ্রেরণার উৎস হয়ে থাকবেন। বঙ্গবন্ধুর সুযোগ্য কন্যা জননেত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বে বর্তমান সরকার দেশকে উন্নয়ন ও অগ্রগতির পথে এগিয়ে নিতে নিরলস প্রয়াস চালাচ্ছে। ইতোমধ্যে বাংলাদেশ শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্য, কৃষি, তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি, নারীর ক্ষমতায়নসহ বিভিন্ন খাতে বিশ্বব্যাপী উন্নয়নের ‘রোল মডেল’ হিসেবে বিবেচিত হচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশ আজ সর্বক্ষেত্রে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে। উন্নয়নের এ ধারা অব্যাহত থাকলে বাংলাদেশ ২০৪১ সালের মধ্যে উন্নত ও সমৃদ্ধ দেশে পরিণত হবে, ইনশাল্লাহ।

মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় ঐক্যবদ্ধ হয়ে বঙ্গবন্ধুর অসমাপ্ত কাজ সম্পাদনের মাধ্যমে দেশকে এগিয়ে নেওয়াই হোক, এবারের বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বদেশ প্রত্যাবর্তন দিবসে সকলের অঙ্গীকার।

Today is the historic 10 January, the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On this day in 1972, Father of the Nation returned independent and sovereign Bangladesh after 9 month and 14 days of imprisonment in Mianwali Jail in Pakistan. Though we achieved ultimate victory on 16 December in 1971 through armed struggle but the true essence of victory came into being upon returning home of Father of the Nation. On this memorable day, I pay my profound homage to Father of the Nation and pray for the salvation of the departed soul.This year the Homecoming day is more significant than any other time as the people of the country have cast their votes for Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu to run the country for the three consecutive terms and materialize the dream of Bangabandhu through the 11^th Parliamentary Election. I believe that this is the true reflection of deep trust and confidence in Bangabandhu and the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.The contribution of Father of the Nation to the struggle for our independence was incomparable. This visionary leader led the nation in every movement including the All Party State Language Movement Council in 1948, Language Movement in 1952, Jukta-Front Election in 1954, movement against Martial Law being proclaimed by Gen. Ayub Khan in 1958, Movement against Education Commission in 1962, Six-Point Movement in 1966, Mass Upsurge in 1969 and the General Election in 1970 where Awami League won landslide victory. Though the Awami League had won absolute majority in the General Election of 1970, the Pakistani rulers were reluctant to hand over power and therefore, the freedom loving people of the country started Non-cooperation movement under the leadership of Bangabandhu. On March 07, 1971 Bangabandhu delivered a historic speech at Race Course Maidan which was indirectly indicated the declaration of our independence. At the mammoth gathering he uttered in his thunderous voice, “The struggle this time is a struggle for emancipation. The struggle this time is a struggle for independence”.On 25 March 1971, the invading army of Pakistan as part of their blueprint committed genocide by launching “Operation Searchlight” with a view to destroying Bangalees. Against this backdrop, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared county’s independence at the early hours on 26 March and called upon the countrymen to took part in the war of liberation and fight until the last soldier of the occupation army is expelled from the soil of Bangladesh. Immediately after the declaration of independence, th             e Pakistani Junta arrested Bangabandhu from his Dhanmondi residence of road no.32 and confined him in Mianwali Jail in Pakistan. In absence of Bangabandhu, the liberation war was being conducted under his leadership. On 16 December, 1971 the Bangalee nation achieved ultimate victory.Stepping into the soil of newborn independent Bangladesh on January 10 in 1972, Bangabandhu was overwhelmed by feelings of emotion. In front of hundreds of thousands people, gathered at the Race Course Maidan, he said, “The dream of my life has been fulfilled today. My Sonar Bangla is now free and a sovereign State has been emerged”. He was sentenced to death during his imprisonment in Pakistan Jail but Bangabandhu told, “I will say, while going to the gallows, I am Bangali, Bangla is my country and Bangla is my language.
